Where do you source your ingredients from?

Updated 5 months ago
Our ingredients are sourced locally from farms around our headquarters in Melksham, Wiltshire.

The only ingredients we have to buy in from further afield are the specialist ingredients such as wheatgrass, seaweed and coconut oil which we add to ensure the nutritional balance of all our raw meals.

Our policy is to produce as low-impact food as humanly possible while keeping the cost low for our customers and their dogs.

Our recipes are made from raw meat, ground bone, offal and dog-friendly vegetables. Find the full list of our ingredients here

At Poppy’s Picnic we use only quality ingredients, sourced from local, vetted suppliers. Using such ingredients means our raw dog food may vary in colour and texture from batch to batch and our commitment to natural ingredients means we won’t even consider using artificial colours or preservatives just to make every batch consistent.

We add vegetables to provide important dietary fibre and energy boosting carbohydrates.

We add parsley to all our meals as it’s a great source of Vitamin C.

We add flaxseed oil as it provides a slow-release energy source which is easy for dogs to digest. It is also a good source of Omega-6 and one of the few vegetable sources that contains Omega-3.

We add ground bone as in order to be optimally healthy. Your dog’s body requires nutrients (specifically calcium and phosphorus) provided by bones derived primarily from beef, lamb, chicken and turkey.

We use once-washed green lamb tripe in our recipes as it is full of digestive enzymes and beneficial bacteria that help your dog digest their food. Not only is green tripe loaded with digestive enzymes and probiotics, it has the perfect ratio of calcium to phosphorus – 1:1. Green tripe also contains the essential fatty acids, Linoleic and Linolenic, in their recommended proportions.

We do NOT add sugar, cheap bulking agents (grains and cereals), dairy products or eggs. We also do NOT use wheat or gluten which is associated with intolerances and allergies.

Our labelling is clear and simple, so you know exactly what you are feeding your best friend!
